Bishop Alvin Walker, a native of Virginia, received the Baptism of the Holy Ghost in Shreveport, Louisiana where he also married his lovely wife Clair and was called to the ministry. Three years later they started The Lighthouse Church in West Monroe, Louisiana. The church grew to the building's capacity and had to relocate to its present location in Monroe. The Lighthouse is a place where families are being changed through the marvelous light of truth. Many souls have been saved and lives transformed through the anointed preaching and teaching ministry of Bishop Walker.
Through the years, Bishop Walker has labored to help break the cycle of poverty in the lives of many individuals. He founded Renewal Inc., a non-profit organization dedicated to fostering social and economic development to disadvantaged communities. He believes in the holistic principle of ministering to the whole man; spiritually, physically, mentally, emotionally and economically.
Bishop Walker has been featured a number of times in the local news media and various national publications for the work he is doing in the community. Some of his achievements include being given the Keys to the City of Monroe and awarded the "Minority Small Business Advocate of the Year" by the State of Louisiana. In January 2015 he received the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Trailblazer Award, the highest award presented by the City of Monroe for outstanding and dedicated service to the community. He was also the host of "What's Happening Now", a local radio program that informed the public about important issues in the community.
Bishop Walker has a passion for souls and strongly believes that "You are only limited by what you believe God can do through you".
